***REWRITE vs. POLISHING***

Okay! so sometimes, these words can get confusing? Someone who does not know a lot of screenwriting jargon and hiring screenwriter for the first time to have a look at the very first draft they have written! (exciting!)

Breaking it down in simple words:

'Rewrite' is when a script requires 'significant changes. These changes could be to the plot or story or character arc or the interrelationship of characters or all dialogues.

I will be working with you through the process.

'Polishing' is when a script requires changes to the formatting, dialogues, passive verbs, or scene descriptions, but not to the same degree as a rewrite.

Polishing would include working on the following that make a screenplay look professional.

#UNNECESSARY CAMERA ANGELS

#UNNECESSARY PARENTHESIS

#UNNECESSARY TRANSITIONS
#CHECKING(V.O) Vs (O.S.)

#SPELLING ERRORS
#MANY PASSIVE LINES IN ACTION PARAGRAPH

('action' paragraph according to Final Draft)

#SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION VERB

Example:

He quickly runs towards the door.

-->He rushes to the door.

#MAKING SCREENPLAY MORE VISUAL

Example:

It is morning. Sunlight coming thru the window falls on her face.

-->Morning sun fills the room and caresses her soft skin.

REWRITE would include all the things in 'Polishing' as well as below:

# Major changes in plot

# Character arc

# The interrelationship between characters and any other things that you would like to discuss.

***EDITING***

EDITING is when you are sure that you don't need any creative inputs/changes (i.e. in the plot, story development, character arc, dialogues, etc) but you want a fresh pair of eyes to go through your script for any typos, spelling, grammar description, more suitable words, etc.

Editing is always part of REWRITING or POLISHING.
